Initial Thoughts on the Wildhorn Pipeline Snow Goggles
First off, these ski and snowboard goggles come in a little brown paper bag like a lunch sack with Wildhorn’s cool logo and a sticker informing us they are a proud U.S. Ski & Snowboard Team supplier. Inside, the Pipeline goggles are wrapped in protective paper and have a plastic protective lens liner.
I immediately thought these goggles were high-quality and stylish, especially for the double-digit price. The adjustable strap was premium, and the lens was in pristine condition. But what I wanted to know was, “Will the strap stay on? Does the lens provide ample contrast and clarity? How is the field of view? Are they comfortable?”
All about the Lens
The most important stuff: Pipeline Snow Goggles uses Aurora Lens Tech, combining anti-fog and anti-scratch coating, 100% UV protection, a magnetic fast-changing lens, and a large field of view all into one lens. Although you can slightly see the goggles’ frame in your peripheral (it is important to note that most, if not all, goggles have this problem), it does not impact your field of view. The Pipeline goggles do not limit peripheral vision.
Equally as important- the Pipeline lens’ is made with polycarbonate, a special impact-resistant, shatter-proof material. Wildhorn’s choice of lens material elevated these goggles to the pro level. A protective goggle lens is essential when sending cliffs on your snowboard or skis, and Pipeline goggles have your back.
The lens shape is cylindrical. Right now, especially among snowboarders, the cylindrical lens shape is trending and stylish. The cylindrical shape allows for less distortion, a flatter low profile, and steeze.
Wildhorn Pipeline Goggles Frame Materials
The Wildhorn Pipeline ski and snowboard goggle frame is constructed of heavy-duty material to absorb impact and protect its users. The frame comprises Polycarbonate, Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene, and Thermoplastic Polyurethane (PC/ ABS & TPU). This combination of materials is common for goggle frames due to the unique properties creating a durable, impact-resistant, and flexible goggle frame.
The polycarbonate is impact-resistant and notoriously used in most protective sports eyewear, for good reason (it protects you). The TPU is cold-resistant and flexible in harsh weather, making for a comfortable wearing experience. The ABS is a cost-effective, durable material that is resistant to scratches.
Strap Review
This strap works great under or over the helmet. The Pipeline goggles strap is thick in width to match the extra large frame style. The strap is adjustable to provide adaptability to many users. The added silicone grip on the inside of the strap to stick to your head or helmet works wonders. This combination makes for one good helmet strap.
Snow Goggle Ventilation and Helmet Compatibility
Wildhorn uses a custom-designed ventilation system that works well with, not only Wildhorn’s helmet, but all helmets to keep the fog away. We even got these goggles wet on the inside, skied off, and found they dried quickly, thanks to the unique ventilation system. The vents cover the goggles’ entire top and bottom, making them compatible with all helmets.
Value
For under $100, these ski and snowboard goggles are killer. The design fits excellent with helmets, and the custom ventilation system prevents foggy goggles. The strap works great, with silicone inside to grip your head or helmet while wearing. The field of view is vast, with minimal to no impact on peripheral vision. Also, they are super comfortable, even all day long.
However, the budget does affect one thing… the lens will catch a glare inside when light penetrates it just right. This lens glare is not something you will find in high-end, expensive snow goggles. But overall, the clarity is high, and the contrast is above satisfactory.
We Recommend These Stylish Budget Goggles
Overall, these are stellar budget ski goggles. The Wildhorn Pipeline goggles get 5/5 for safety points, as the lens and frame materials are impact-resistant, protective, and durable. The strap keeps the goggles secured.
The comfort of these goggles is 5/5, no matter the size of your face, due to the frame’s flexibility. The only downside to the Pipeline goggles is the lens can catch a glare when the sun hits it at a certain angle.
