5 Best Spyder Jackets in 2025

Spyder Jackets

Based in the Front Range of Colorado, Spyder has been producing quality jackets and outerwear for the better part of the last four decades.

Originally dedicated to the research and development of all-things-fast, Spyder got its start in the world of race skiing, developing the first-ever padded race sweater in 1978. In recent years, however, Spyder has shifted gears to be more inclusive of other disciplines no matter the speed, focusing more on technical construction, innovative properties, and quality fabrications.

Recognized as one of the world’s premier ski brands, Spyder continues to push the limit of what skiers and ski apparel are capable of. While continuing to develop new technologies to make a day out on the hill more enjoyable, Spyder has not forgotten their roots and continues to sell the tried and true classics.

From America to Asia, you’re sure to spot a Spyder jacket at any ski area. Let’s take a dive into this year’s lineup and see what Spyder has to offer.

For when you’re really working up a sweat, Spyder has added an underarm ventilation system with fully sealed zippers, maximizing airflow while keeping snow out. A removable powder skirt maximizes protection, keeping snow out of undesirable places and locking in warmth on those extra chilly days.

Spyder Nolan Softshell

The Nolan is a 3-season softshell jacket that’s new to Spyder’s lineup this year.

Being that the Nolan is a shell, it is designed to be worn with additional layers when the going gets a little too chilly. That being said, soft shells are eons more breathable than that of their hardshell brethren. But if you ever feel like you’re working up a sweat, pit zips are easily opened to help regulate temperature.

The EXO Shield 10k polyester outer works to keep the elements out and warmth in, while a recycled fleece backer on the inside is softer on the skin, making it comfortable as a stand-alone jacket.

Built to rip corn on bluebird days as much as to keep warm during mud season, this soft shell is a jack of all trades.

Specs & Features
  • Material: EXO Shield 10k stretch polyester with 10k/10k lainate, recycled fleece backer

Spyder Jagged Gore Tex Shell

This durable, stylish, GORE-TEX shell returns to Spyders lineup this year. Revamped with killer features and designed with the help of Bobby Brown, the Jagged GORE-TEX Shell is at home in the terrain park as much as in the big mountains.

The renowned freeskier Bobby Brown needed a jacket that could handle the rigors of backcountry skiing whilst not sacrificing mobility to make big airs and technical maneuvers. In response to these needs, Spyder built the Jagged.

Built with a 2 layer GORE-TEX laminate, the Jagged is designed to take any weather that the mountains can throw at you. Durable, waterproof, and breathable, this piece also includes a powder skirt that is removable for those big pushes where every ounce counts.

Ample pocket space and a goggle pocket ensure that you have sufficient space to store the necessary goods, while a helmet-compatible hood protects your noggin from less than ideal weather.

A Brief History of Spyder

Founded by David Jacobs in 1978, Spyder has roots that run deep in the world of race skiing. By creating the first padded race sweater, Jacobs was launched down the path that would ultimately lead to Spyder’s success as a leader in alpine ski apparel and outerwear.

Over the course of the following decades, Spyder produced revolutionary pieces of outerwear that are now commonplace in race skiing, like the first-ever speed suit, which at the time served as a catalyst for racers to reach new speeds.

Spyder Speed

As time progresses, so do the fads in skiing. In the early aughts, as free skiing skyrockets in popularity, we start to see more variety in the Spyders lineup. The freeski-inspired Venom lineup got legends like CR Johnson, Seth Morrison, and JP Auclair kitted out in top of the line gear, allowing them to push the limits of the sport to new heights.

After having spent the majority of its lifespan dedicated to the research and development of “all-things-fast,” the brand has realized that “speed is relative.” With the shift in mentality, Spyder has introduced the Science of Speed, making a space that is inclusive to all mountain minded groups and individuals, no matter their speed.

The shift to the Science of Speed campaign means that the engineers and designers at Spyder are now putting more resources into developing technologies with innovative properties, technical construction, and quality fabrications.
