Why Choose the Mammut Stoney Hardshell Ski Jacket?
A hardshell ski jacket is made for staying warm when it’s wet or windy. Mammut uses its proprietary 3-layer Dry Tour outer fabric now redesigned with 100% recycled materials, to keep you warm and dry in the wind and snow.
We tested this jacket on and off the mountain this winter. Before we could hit the slopes this season we took it on wet, early snowy days to walk the dog and run errands. We loved it!
Adjustable wrist cuffs, hood, and bottom hem meant that even though this was a men’s large jacket, I (a women’s medium) could wear it comfortably and securely. We walked the dog in freezing wet snow for an hour with no water getting in and moving comfortably in the flexible fabric. Plus the trees were sagging from the wet snow but even having to move through branches, the construction and materials were strong and durable with no snags or scratches.
Great Performance Ski Jacket for the Resort
Skiing through trees or groomed runs this hard shell ski jacket is comfortable and flexible.
Mammut’s innovative, environmentally responsible fabric performed well on the mountain too. We took it out in many early season winter storms with high winds and snow, and we stayed warm and dry all day. It is very well designed for resort skiing.
The thick hardshell fabric keeps the wind out and gives light insulation to keep you warm, without overheating on harder runs. It just works well and is very comfortable! And as we mentioned above, the fabric is durable. Cruising through the trees won’t snag or tear the Mammut Stoney HS Hooded Ski Jacket.
Mammut Stoney HS Ski Jacket Features
Hood that Fits over a Helmet
The hood on the Mammut Stoney HS Ski Jacket has a one point adjustment to tighten it up if you need extra protection. Or when it is opened, it fits a ski helmet underneath for those wintery days on the slopes.
Easy glide Water-repellent 2-Way Front Zipper
The zippers on the Mammut Stoney HS Ski Jacket are some of the easiest gliding water-repellent zippers we’ve used over a large range of ski jackets. And they are 2-way, something we missed on the Arc’teryx Alpha.
We also really liked the large rubber zip pull. If you like to keep your gloves on while zipping, it helps a lot.
Plenty of Pockets
This Mammut hard shell ski jacket has great pockets. There are 2 outer chest pockets with water-repellent zips to protect whatever you need to stick in them from the elements. There is an inner safe pocket again with water-repellent zippers to keep things inside with extra protection.
Then you have an inner stuff pocket for things you want to get to easily. And there is a sleeve pocket for your lift ticket or pass. You also as expected get 2 large hand pockets.
Comfortable Cuffs and Easy Access Vents
We mentioned the adjustable cuffs above to make this jacket easy to share when needed. But under the velcro adjustments is a snug, soft elastic, comfortable cuff to make sure no snow gets up your sleeves. We liked this simple elastic cuff better than cuffs with hand gaiters on a ski jacket. They are a lot more comfortable with heavy gloves.
Another feature which is standard on ski jackets but we think Mammut designed really well on the Stoney, is the pit vents. They are enormous – could open up the whole side of the jacket when you are spring skiing. And with X-style, dual zippers you can actually reach them and zip and unzip them without needing a buddy nearby to help.
Bottom Covering Fit, Snow Skirt, and Adjustable Lower Hem
This is not only a great performing jacket it is also nice looking and designed for comfort. It has a nice fitted cut. The bottom hem is cut to cover your bottom when you are riding the lift which gives that little extra snow and wet protection to keep you dry and warm out on the mountain.
The Mammut Stoney HS Hooded Ski Jacket comes with an adjustable and removable snow skirt and an elastic cord with easy adjustment point to tighten the bottom hem for extra protection. Like all the other features this Mammut hard shell ski jacket has, these extras make this jacket comfortable with great protection against the elements.
Price/Value of the Mammut Stoney HS Hooded Ski Jacket
At around $500 this ski jacket is not a budget option like the Columbia Highland Summit Ski Jacket. But it still comes in at much a lower price than some of our other favorite high performing ski jackets, especially the ones from Arc’teryx.
The materials and design of the Mammut Stoney HS Hooded Ski Jacket makes this jacket stand out as a long lasting, high performing jacket and worth the $500 investment if you are a regular resort skier.
Do We Recommend It?

Comfortable in all types of weather, flexible fabric for a great range of movement, tons of features for a great fit, and long-term durability all equal great resort skiing for many years.
