Mammut Sender IN Down Jacket For Insulated Everyday Comfort

The first thing we noticed about the Mammut Sender IN down jacket was it had a soft outer material which was lovely to the touch. Then when we were out walking the dog and running errands around town, we got tons of compliments. So many people we passed wanted to know about the jacket and loved the look of the fit.

It really is a great everyday jacket. It looks good and has good warmth and wind protection. But there is more to love about this synthetic down jacket.

Mammut is Committed to Low Environmental Impact

Mammut is creating new materials from products that would normally be discarded to landfills. Their LOOPINSULATION is fluffy insulation padding made from repurposed polyester rope waste and recycled plastic that are combined without the use of extra chemicals.

Mammut is also committed to being PFC-free by 2025. Their Sender IN Hooded Jacket is PFC-free helping to keep the dangerous ‘forever chemicals’ out of our environment and our bodies.

Mammut Sender In Hooded Jacket Insulation
With insulation made from 100% recycled rope scraps and recycled plastic, and a good fit, the Mammut Sender IN down jacket has a lower impact on the environment along with being warm and comfortable.

The Sender IN is a Simple Comfortable Puffer Jacket

This down jacket is a simple everyday cold weather jacket. It will keep you warm in temperatures from 20 F to 50 F, though you will have to find the right balance of your other layers.

I found the insulation does a good job of trapping your body heat and keeping you warm. This issue was that if you start out cold when you put it on, it did not do a great job of warming you up.

If you want a really cozy warm jacket then check out the Arc’teryx Nita Down Jacket or the Fjallraven Expedition Down Jacket. Though these are at a much higher price tag. It may be more cost efficient to throw on a warm fleece under the Sender IN when the temperature drops below 30 or if you are feeling cold before you even go outside.

The jacket is not very breathable so you can get warm as the temperatures rise or as you do more vigorous activity. If you are looking for a down jacket when you are out for a workout, the Arc’teryx Cerium, the REI 650 Down Jacket, or the Mountain Hardwear Ghost Whisperer/2.

Down Jacket Zipper and Hood

It is simple to use with a one way zipper and pre-adjusted hood. This is perfect for easy going outings.

To keep the warmth in but also keep the fit comfortable, they have added lightly elasticized cuffs and waistband.

Price/Quality of the Mammut Sender IN Down Jacket

Priced about $260 at the time of publishing, the Mammut Sender IN Hooded Jacket is priced on the lower end of other well made warm down jackets. It has great construction and newly developed materials for low environmental impact and health and safety with no PFC.

You do have to keep in mind that this is a limited use down jacket. It will not be warm enough in very low temperatures. It is also not designed for vigorous activity and unfortunately does not hold up to a long time in very wet weather. After walking my dog for an hour in heavy snow, I was warm, but the snow started to soak through the jacket.

Mammut Sender In Hooded Jacket Water Resistant
The Mammut Sender IN down jacket is only lightly water-resistant. It does not stand up to long periods in wet weather.

Do We Recommend It?

Yes – for an everyday down jacket the Mammut Sender IN Hooded Jacket is a great option. It has a great look and comfortable fit.

You do have to consider what you want to use it for. If you need something for activities that make you heat up or for extreme wet weather you will need another jacket in addition to the Sender IN. Though, it is worth noting that lightweight down jackets do not hold up well in wet weather. Natural down gets very boggy when wet so synthetic is the best choice for down jackets in wet weather. The Mammut Sender IN down jacket dries fairly quickly when saturated – it was completely warm and dry in an hour.
