The Giro Tenya is equipped with a Fidlock® magnetic buckle chin strap. The buckle is easy to do and undo with one hand, even with gloves. A soft pad protects the chin from the strap.

Wear the chin strap about a finger width from your chin to ensure a good helmet fit. One of the only problems encountered with this Giro ski helmet was that the chin strap tends to loosen. You can quickly re-tighten it, but it happens too often.

The Thermostat Control™ adjustable venting from Giro provides custom-tuning of airflow with a simple control switch on the top of the helmet. Switching the vents open and closed with gloves on or off while skiing or standing is a breeze.

To check every ventilation box, Giro uses Stack Vent™ Technology to provide maximum ventilation for ski goggles. The Stack Vents sit above the ski goggles and are permanently open. The vents work wonders at mitigating fog and moisture.

Optimal Ski Helmet Construction

The Tenaya Spherical women’s ski helmet uses hybrid construction to optimize protection while remaining lightweight. Hybrid construction is one of three construction processes.

Hardshells are heavier and more protective. In-mold designs are light and less protective, and Hybrids are the best of both worlds.

The upper portion of the helmet uses hard shell construction. This means the two layers are bonded together. The lower portion and sidewalls are constructed with a lightweight in-mold design.

The helmet’s exterior shell is an EPS layer to address high-speed impacts. EPS has excellent absorption but poor resilience. EPS can dent beyond repair, rendering the helmet useless.

The inner layer of the Tenaya ski helmet is EPP. EPP is used for its rebound characteristics. This helps with impact absorption at slower-speed falls. This layer also helps with helmet longevity.

Giro has the reliable MipsⓇ brain protection system in the Tenaya Spherical ski helmet. However, Giro went a step further by inventing Spherical Technology.

Working with Bell, they develop a unique ball-and-socket design. Spherical Technology uses progressive layering to distribute forces. The Tenaya uses two layers and MIPSⓇ to reduce rotational forces, which are linked to concussions.

The Tenya Spherical ski helmet is European-certified. The CE EN1077 certification means that it passed a series of impact and temperature tests. This Giro helmet is a valid brain bucket protector.

Disappointingly, the only differences between women’s and men’s ski helmets are the aesthetics and lining material. Instead of helmet engineers designing women’s helmets to match women’s head shapes for better protection, they just use a men’s/”unisex” helmet design.
