The Better Sweater might not be Patagonia’s best choice for fast and light outdoor excursions, but this multi-purpose fleece looks, feels, and insulates well enough to be used in almost any setting.
It definitely feels more appropriate for getting coffee in October than wearing under your ski coat, but the beauty of Patagonia’s products is their adaptability, and the Better Sweater is no exception.
The Better Sweater falls short mainly in its bulk. While most things you use outside can pack down and roll up efficiently, the Better Sweater feels clunky to pack and thick while worn. We still hold this fleece in high regard, but we think it’s better for people who want it mainly for casual use with the occasional hike mixed in.
Things we like:
-
Stylish synthetic sweater
-
Casual wear that still has a place in your hiking bag
Things we don't like:
-
Bulky and not as warm as technical wear
-
Expensive for something that you won’t likely wear while adventuring
